Just 30 minutes away from the obelisk, outside the city of Buenos Aires, lies one of the greatest tourist attractions of recent times: the North zone.
Each weekend both San Isidro and Tigre attract nearly 2,000 tourists with their early 20th-Century architecture, their proximity to the river, and the different activities they offer. Fresh-air lovers will enjoy spending a day outdoors here.

MUST-VISIT

San Isidro Cathedral
In the center of town stands the San Isidro Cathedral. Built at the end of the 19th Century, it boasts a main tower that is nearly 70-meters tall. Facing the Cathedral is the city’s main plaza, built on two levels and surrounded by palm trees that invite passers-by to enjoy a quiet stroll around the square.

Tren de la Costa
Bordering the river, as in a fairy tale, runs the small Tren de la Costa (Train of the Coast), with its narrow tracks quiet pace and very British style. A ride on the train takes passengers on a tranquil, comfortable journey that captures the past and delights in the present.

San Isidro Hippodrome
Another site worth visiting is the San Isidro Hippodrome (racetrack), a witness to old splendor and an unquestionable tourist attraction. Opened in 1935, its beautiful and perfectly manicured parks make it one of the most important tracks in the Americas.

Tigre
Surrounded by an exotic beauty, Tigre is the departure point for visiting the Delta of the Parana River, one of the most charming places in the Buenos Aires outskirts. On picturesque catamarans or leisure boats, one may take in the coastal scenery on tours that vary between one and three hours. Water sports such as wakeboarding, kayaking or crew are also available, as well as long walks, photographic safaris and bird watching.

Puerto de Frutos
Sarmiento Street offers the Puerto de Frutos (Port of Fruits and Nuts), an outdoor market filled with handmade blankets, leather goods, reed and wicker furniture, decorations and accessories, plus candies, liqueurs, homemade honeys, flowers, and an array of local fruits and nuts.

Parque de la Costa
An amusement park that delights visitors of all ages with its live shows, adventure rides, roller coasters and attractions.
